HPA Denounces CBS Decision on “Real Beverly Hillbillies”

The Heritage Preservation Association (www.hpa.org) joins Senator Zell Miller (D-GA) and the United Mine Workers of America in their protest over CBS’ decision to move forward in their bigoted “reality show”, Real Beverly Hillbillies.

By deciding to move ahead with this “program”, CBS is promoting a bigoted stereotype of Southern people from the Appalachian Mountain region. Their goal is to embarrass and degrade Americans, who are amongst the most patriotic in this country.

Would CBS dare promote a show that degrades Hispanics, African-Americans, Asians or any other minority group? Probably not. However, they have chosen rural Southerners as the punch-line for their meager attempt at humor.

The original TV show portrayed backwoods Southerners in a fish-out-of-water situation. However, despite their “outdated” ways, they still got the better end of the scheming characters that embodied corporate America. The new show does not follow those same ideas. Instead, the only goal is to degrade and humiliate Southern folks.

HPA will actively campaign against CBS and the sponsors of their hateful TV show and will encourage others to do the same.
